30 Film Females: Chicken Run (2000)

Filed under: 30 Film Females — ootastic @ 9:58 am

My toddler now has enough of an attention span that we’ve been working our way through the fabulous Aardman animated films. My favourite is probably Chicken Run, a gender/species twist on classic war movies whose superb voice cast includes Julia Sawalha as the tenacious McQueen-eqsue lead escapologist and Miranda Richardson as a seriously sinister farmer’s wife. I also have a soft spot for the brilliantly titled Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists! which a certain academic acquaintance favours for its depiction of Charles Darwin.  I missed a trick with this doodle and should have had the speech bubble say “The Great Egg-scape!”.

Honourable mentions for 2000: Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang as opposing warriors in balletic actioner Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Also, the ever wonderful Julie Walters as the maternal dancing teacher in Billy Elliot.
