30 Film Females: Misery (1990)

Filed under: 30 Film Females — ootastic @ 9:28 pm

I’m fortunate that I’m usually only miserable about minor things: lack of sleep, rudeness, litter, etc.  However, this year’s spate of celebrity deaths has prompted me to have a little cry.  So it seems an apt time to post this illustration to accompany the psychological horror Misery, in which a (literally) smashing “number one fan” Kathy Bates joins the esteemed (and encouragingly feminine) ranks of Oscar-winning villains.

Honourable (coincidentally spooky) mentions for 1990: a bereaved Juliet Stevenson in Truly, Madly, Deeply (alongside the recently departed Alan Rickman) and both Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost.

Great expections: congenital heart disease and pregnancy

Filed under: CHD, pregnancy — ootastic @ 4:13 pm

Otherwise jokily known as “What to expect when you’re Ebstein”.  Following on from my “origin story” about living with a congenital heart defect (CHD), I though it would be interesting to share my experiences of pregnancy.  I tried to focus on aspects unique to the CHD mum and it should be noted that there was a gap of around five years between panels three and five due to unrelated fertility and miscarriage woes.  Bonus points if you can spot the Jareth cameo.  Finally, thanks to Addenbrookes hospital for excellent care of both me and my son (now three years old).
